Los Angeles County Courthouse Targeted in Ransomware Attack

A ransomware attack forced the Los Angeles County Courthouse to shut down its network systems Friday morning.

It happened in the early morning hours of July 19, when the CrowdStrike problem caused worldwide computer problems. The legal system believes the two incidents are unrelated.

LA County Superior Court shut down its networks shortly after learning of the ransomware attack to prevent further damage. The network will remain down until at least Monday so technicians can investigate and resolve the issue.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies have made resources available to assist the legal system in investigating the breach and mitigating its impact.

Based on preliminary investigations, there are no indications that court users’ data is at risk.

According to the Los Angeles County Court, they have invested heavily in their cybersecurity infrastructure in recent years.
