The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of its personnel involved in high-profile matters.

This statement follows a targeted attack on lawyer Coreth Naude, who represents SARS in a tax investigation involving well-known businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize.

The incident occurred when Naude pulled into a hotel parking lot in the upmarket uMhlanga neighbourhood last Wednesday evening, during which time her vehicle was ambushed by two unknown gunmen.

After the attack, SARS confirmed that Naude is currently recovering in a hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. The organization described the incident as a deliberate assassination attempt.

“Safety is paramount and we work closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to protect our personnel,” said Siphithi Sibeko, a

SARS spokesperson. “In cases where threats are identified, law enforcement agencies are immediately called in and lead the response.”

SARS strongly condemned the attack, calling it an act of intimidation and speaking out against any form of violence against its workers.
