Afghan police warn of legal action against reckless driving

Faizabad (Afghanistan), July 20 Police in northern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province warned on Saturday that local drivers could face legal action if they failed to follow traffic rules.

A total of 13 people have been killed and 36 others injured in road accidents in the province in the past month, provincial police said in a statement. The fatalities occurred in the city of Faizabad, the provincial capital, and in some districts of the province, and were the result of reckless driving on busy roads.

Earlier this week, 17 people were killed and 34 others injured when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in northern Afghanistan’s Baghlan province, Xinhua news agency reported.

Officials say poor roads, reckless driving and lack of safety measures while traveling are some of the leading causes of fatal road accidents in the war-torn Asian country.
