Myron Sommerfeld and Orchestra to Perform for Music in the Park on July 24 – Jamestown Sun

VALLEY CITY, ND — Music in the Park will feature Myron Sommerfeld and The Music of the Stars Orchestra, beginning at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 at the City Park Bandshell at 420 4th St. SW, Valley City.

The group plays swing, 50s and 60s rock ‘n’ roll, classic country, waltzes, polkas, Latin American and patriotic music.

Music is Sommerfeld’s life. He was born on a farm in North Dakota, where he grew up playing guitar and singing country music. Over the years, his music has been heard on radio, TV and recordings. They have toured the US, Canada and Germany and sailed around South America on a 100-day cruise ship. Sommerfeld received
the Valley City State University Music Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumnus awards. In recent years, Sommerfeld has played a major role in restoring Peggy Lee history to Valley City.

Sommerfeld and his wife, Jenneice, grew up in Valley City. They both taught students. Jenneice taught fifth grade for 27 years, and Myron taught K-12, including choir and instrumental, for 29 ½ years. They raised their daughter, Bonnie, in Valley City.

Those attending the performance are asked to bring lawn chairs. A freewill offering will be collected each evening for the continued support of the City Park Bandshell. If weather conditions do not permit the program to be held outdoors, it will be moved to the Vangstad Auditorium on the campus of Valley City State University.
