DEFTONES starts teasing Dia De Los DEFTONES

DEFTONES starts teasing Dia De Los DEFTONES

Deftones is set to announce their annual Dia De Los Deftones festival on June 23rd. The band posted the teaser for the festival below, which was honestly all of four seconds of excitement about a new album. But still – I’ll take a Dia De Los Deftones festival announcement.

Speaking of a new one DeftonesThe band already finished the musical part of it in April!

In an interview backstage at Coachella, Moreno talked a bit about the record and said that he’s been in and out of the studio for a while now perfecting his performances for the upcoming record.

“We haven’t really talked about it much (in public),” he said Moreno. “We’ve just been working on and off for the last year and a half, from when we started writing until… We’ve actually recorded a whole record now, all musically. And it’s basically my job now to finish the vocals.

“And I have, obviously, this show next week, and then I’m going back home to Oregon right after that and I’m going to go into the studio. So as long as that lasts… I don’t want to give a set time frame, because we’re not really in a rush. We want it to be great. I think that’s the most important thing. But it’s coming, and yeah, it’s really good. We’re really excited about what we’ve been working on. And everyone’s excited.”

About how new Deftones sounds four years out Ohm, Moreno added: “I feel like it’s a refreshing kind of sound overall. We went in there and everyone… It’s, after all these years, you go in there and it’s, like, we haven’t written a record since – what was it again? Pre-COVID, I think, when we were last in the studio. So it’s been a while since we actually… I mean, we’ve played shows, but we haven’t really been creative.

“The creative part is always the most fun part of being in this band for me. Performing is great, but coming up with something out of nothing, that feeling is unbeatable. And so when you’re in the room with your friends, we’re laughing, having fun and then someone does something and I react to it or they react to what I do, it goes in a circle and then, all of a sudden, we lift our heads and there’s something that exists that didn’t exist before we walked into that room. It’s just amazing.”

Otherwise we only know that Deftones worked together with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Hast, Mastodon, Alice in Chainsetc.) about the new stuff. The new Deftones album will be their first without a bassist Sergio Vegawho played on the band’s four previous albums and quit in 2021. Fred Sablan is filled in with Deftones live, but the band has never announced an official replacement Vega.
