Glen Powell has emerged as a versatile talent in the entertainment world, delivering impeccable performances whether it’s Hidden Figures or Top Gun: Maverick.

Because he’s back with another thriller project Whirlwindsa standalone sequel to the late actor Bill Paxton’s Vortex (1996) he reflected on an important trick he learned from the latter when the duo collaborated on a Western project.

In a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote his new film, Powell reflected on his time at the Edge of tomorrow actor, who stated that the duo became close during filming Red wing.

Years ago I shot the movie Red Wing and Bill and I became very close during that filming.

He added that the actor is quite “passionate about the weather” Since working on his 1996 film, he has been giving weather reports copying his character from the film.

He continued to think about the trick he had learned from his superior that had had a great impact on his life.

As an actor, sometimes you have to film outside and you have to squint a little bit and stuff. He taught me a little trick: if you close your eyes and look at the sun, your eyes will be warmed by the sun and you can open your eyes again.

He continued,

So when we were filming Twisters, I was filming outside the whole time, so I’d been using that trick my whole career since I met Bill. And with Twisters, I really felt like every time I closed my eyes, I could think of Bill, which was great.

Powell added that this particular trick continues to influence his time on film sets to this day. Although the duo’s collaboration failed to garner much attention, red wing Although the book received mixed reviews from critics, it was a wonderful gift for Powell.

Powell stressed that his guidance was not only off-screen, but also that he delivered a nuanced performance on-screen.

The Scream queen actor wrote a significant portion of his Hidden figures success to the guidance he received from the late actor. In the acclaimed film, Glen Powell plays the role of John Glenn, the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth.

Loosely based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s 2016 book of the same name, his character primarily supports the African-American mathematicians at NASA, particularly Katherine Johnson, played by Taraji P. Henson.

In the same interview, the Whirlwinds actor reflected that his red wing co-star was quite “passionate about space” and that he even foresaw “a lot of research from his Apollo 13 days.”

The actor said he applied the research to his role, which gave it a lot of depth. His role was highly praised by both critics and audiences.

Directed by Theodore Melfi, it centers on the inspiring story of three African-American female mathematicians: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson who worked at NASA. They were instrumental in the success of early space missions, including John Glenn’s orbital flight.
