EARTHGANG & Snakehips – SNAKEGANG EP, Vol. 1

(B)

EARTHGANG and Snakehips bring out the best in each other.

When it comes to experimental hip-hop, EARTHGANG is at the top of the list. Their music tends to be eclectic and has all sorts of vibes. In their recent collaboration with Snakehips, the duo delivers runway, Saturday brunch in Brooklyn vibes. While the vibes and uptempo instrumentals will probably grab your attention first, it’s always cool to hear some runway-ready tracks with raps, and EARTHGANG’s raps definitely make a difference.

Favorite songs: “GLIMMER.” & A minute ago”

Tekashi 6ix9ine – The best hits of Tekashi 6ix9ine

(N/B)

It’s weird to release a greatest hits album after two real albums.

Before you dismiss this project, consider that 6ix9ine was a hit in his heyday. Don’t believe me? Then check out the streaming numbers for this project. Sixteen of the twenty-one tracks have over 100 million streams; that certainly beats the catalogs of most of your favorite rappers. Of course, the project features hits like “GUMMO,” “BEBE,” “FEFE,” and the new “COCO.” Surprisingly, it also features the terrible “LOCKED UP, Pt. 2.”

Favorite songs: “GUMMO,” FEFE” & “KEKE.”

Ransom & MadeinTYO – SMOKE & MIRRORS

(B)

Have you been paying attention to MadeinTYO lately? He’s gone from one of those young rappers talking shit on records to a boom-bap man. TYO’s latest project, TYO808was one of the most genuine hip hop releases I heard last year. Although SMOKE & MIRRORSfeaturing underground NJ spitter Ransom, doesn’t feature any MadeinTYO bars, but does feature three excellent, elegant hip-hop beats from him. I’m very impressed with the project (it goes without saying that Ransom’s rap is excellent).
