Donald Trump ‘refused extra security and snipers at outdoor events in requests made before attempted assassination at rally’

TOP Secret Service officials rejected multiple requests for additional resources from Donald Trump’s security team over the past two years before he was injured in an assassination attempt last week.

Four people familiar with the requests say the former president asked for magnetometers and more agents to monitor attendance at large gatherings.

Trump’s team also called for more snipers and special teams at other public events, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The requests, which had not been previously reported, were sometimes rejected by senior agency officials for a variety of reasons, including a lack of resources due to staff shortages the agency has been struggling with for years.

This created long-term tension between Trump, his advisers and the security services on the one hand and the leadership of the Secret Service on the other.

Trump’s advisers privately argued that the agency was not doing enough to protect the former president.

The Secret Service initially denied denying the requests, but the agency has now acknowledged that some requests were denied.

Veterans of the organization say the organization has had to make difficult decisions due to limited funding and a growing list of people in need of protection.

Thomas Crooks, 20, opened fire on July 13 during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, from a rooftop about 450 feet (137 meters) away from Trump.

The former president was injured along with two others, and a rally attendee was killed.

Since then, the agency has come under criticism for alleged shortcomings during the incident.

The American newspaper Sun has asked the Secret Service for comment.
