Planting trees will promote ecological sustainability and wealth creation – Soludo – EnviroNews

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo says planting trees is a way to promote environmental sustainability and wealth creation.

Soludo said this on Saturday, July 20, while inaugurating the 2024 distribution of economic tree seedlings to the people in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra.

He said that tree planting plays a vital role in sustainable development, ecosystem conservation and environmental protection.

According to Soludo, erosion is occurring as a result of neglecting tree planting and environmental protection.

According to him, this had made the state the world capital of gully erosion.

The governor said people should use every square inch of the land to boost technological innovation and trade as that is the foundation of the future the state has laid.

“We are launching a continuous programme to plant at least 10 million seedlings in Anambra.

“These trees will in the medium term form Anambra’s own crude oil. This activity lies in industrialization, entertainment and leisure.

“Anambra is in many ways the second Lagos, we have the second largest land mass after Lagos but the difference between Anambra and Lagos is that while Lagos is reclaiming its land from the ocean, Anambra is suffering from erosion,” he said.

According to Soludo, the state is making progress on all fronts, adding that traders are coming back as there is no more space for promotional activities in the entire state.

He said the state was doing well in terms of infrastructure as nearly 500 kilometers of roads have been earmarked for construction.

Soludo said that about 300 roads in Anambra will be completed by 2026.
