NFL may not suspend Rashee Rice this year amid threat of legal action: Nick Wright

The Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off back-to-back Super Bowl wins, could be in trouble in their receiver room regarding Rashee Rice. Following a car accident and subsequent legal drama, the Chiefs are in limbo over Rice’s status for the 2024 season. Rumors suggest the league could suspend the wideout for a few games; Nick Wright, however, thinks otherwise.

During his recent appearance on ‘What’s Wright?’ Nick speculated about the possibility of Rice being suspended by the league. He believes the chances of the commissioner suspending him this season are virtually zero.

According to Wright, the time for a suspension has passed, as the accident was more than three months ago. The analyst argued that the league is waiting for the legal issues to be resolved, which could take months and possibly extend beyond the 2024 season.

“I said it the other day week. I’ll say it again, I don’t think he’s going to get suspended this year. I think he’s going to get suspended eventually, but if they were going to suspend him before the legal process was done, they would have done it already.”

The Chiefs will now have to focus more on their rookie receiver, Xavier Worthy, and their newly signed veteran, Hollywood Brown. However, the possibility of Rice’s absence could significantly hamper the team, given his undeniable contributions on the field.

Rashee Rice had a great rookie season in 2023

While speaking on Rice’s case, Wright elaborated on the clear distinction between his caliber on the field and his actions off it. The WR is a sensational talent, with nearly 1,000 yards on just 79 receptions. He also scored 7 touchdowns in the regular season and one crucial score in the playoffs. Additionally, the SMU alumnus currently holds the record for most postseason receptions by a rookie (26).

Therefore, Rashee will surely be a top receiver in the league for years to come. And he is fortunate to play next to a QB as inventive as Patrick Mahomes. With all these factors in mind, Wright believes Rice has the potential to be a lethal force.

“Off the field, it’s a separate topic. On the field, he’s an outstanding player, almost a thousand yards as a rookie. And now he’s going to be your primary receiver.”

However, his legal troubles could have a long-term impact on the direction of his career in the league. For now, Rice and the Chiefs can only wait and see what the verdict is and hope for the best.
