For the third summer in a row, local VFW Post 1058 hosted its Kids Summer Party on Putnam Avenue.

During this annual event, children can brave the heat in a variety of ways, including water slides, volleyball, sumo wrestling and games where they can win big and small prizes.

“The turnout has been great. I’ve walked around and seen the kids participating in all kinds of games and things to win prizes and things. And this is my first time visiting and it’s amazing how big it is and the community involvement and the post has been able to be recognized and appreciated by the community in everything they do,” said Roy Campbell, the VFW’s District 5 Commander.

Many of the people who volunteer for the VFW to organize the event are here to show their gratitude for their contributions to the community, including the West Muskingum football team and the Maysville High Schools cheerleading team.

“It’s great to give back to the community in so many ways because they also contribute to our team because the VFW supports us in so many ways. So we like to give back every once in a while,” said Destinee Worden, a member of the Maysville High School cheerleading team.

“Yeah, they donated to help us get new equipment this season, which is really awesome, especially since it’s our last year. So we’re getting some new awesome equipment for our last cheerleading season,” said Alexia Snyder, Worden’s teammate.

Attendance figures for this year have not yet been announced, but last year nearly 300 children attended the Kids Summer Party and VFW members hope that number will be higher this year.
