2 young Chicago sisters get surprise VIP tickets to Sky match after selling lemonade during heatwave

Two young girls who were selling lemonade during the heat wave this week to raise money for Chicago Sky tickets were in for a big surprise on Wednesday.

Jade and Joy Lee, determined to get tickets to Sky’s game against Indiana Fever on Friday, were given several free tickets and a VIP experience to the special event.

The girls set up a small lemonade stand on the corner of 111th and Princeton in Roseland, hoping to raise $700 for tickets to Sky’s “Barbie Night” contest. The event is generating excitement as Sky partners with Mattel to transform Wintrust Arena into a pink-themed party.

But with ticket prices soaring to as much as $800, the Lee sisters faced a tough challenge, especially as they had to man their stall after school in the extreme heat.

The two sisters, who are active in sports such as swimming, track and field, tumbling, cheerleading and wrestling, were eager to see their favorite player, Angel Reese, in action. They have been following Reese since her college days at LSU.

“I love you so much, Angel, and I can’t wait to see you on Friday,” Joy Lee said earlier this week, before the surprise.

Her mother, Brittany Powell-Lee, admitted that buying the tickets would be a challenge, especially since the new school year had started.

“We can’t afford the tickets with all their extracurricular activities, they start school today, school supplies, school uniforms. I mean, we want to go to the game, but it’s going to be hard to do that after all the fees that are mandatory to pay,” she said.

Now the girls can enjoy the Sky game without worrying about the price.
